Mathematics

YouCubed is created by the mathematicians researchers at Stanford University. They have articles about brain research and best practices in learning math, and an entire section on meaningful math tasks!  This is worth the time to explore.

This blogpost from We Are Teachers, dated January 26, 2018, has a great list of up-to-date Math Websites to use with students that have been vetted and recommended by teachers.

Building Number Sense

Wow! What a great resource for teachers!  The blogger gives you a nice overview of number talks and how to incorporate routines in your classroom which will help your students increase their number sense.

Online Math Manipulatives
Why you should use them!  :)

One of my favorite bloggers and Professional Development leaders!  Christina is "The Recovering Traditionalist" - she helps teachers outside the traditional box of teaching math.

TV411 - Math
TV411 offers video lessons in math and other subjects that are grounded in real world applications. These help answer the question, "When are we ever going to use this?"  There are also accompanying worksheets.

Absurd Math
Absurd Math is a game consisting of interactive math problems.  Each level players must complete a set of math based tasks that increase in difficulty.  There are four challenges, and this is a great game for middle to high school students.

Dan Mayer and Buzz Math...need I say more???
Graphing Stories

Graphing Stories is a series of "real world" videos by Dan Meyer and Buzz Math that have a graphing measurements theme. Why in the world would you want to show graphing videos? While that may sound boring, the videos and accompanying graphing worksheet are actually an engaging way to demonstrate these important math concepts. The videos cover topics such as height, distance, time and elevation and students get to see how these math concepts work in their world. The Graphing Stories videos are free to download and as mentioned before, they come with a generic graphing worksheet for you to use.

Khan Academy

Have your students join your class, while you "coach" them along. You can search standards, have them watch videos and answer practice questions. The website tracks their progress, and you can see what gaps to fill, or where to extend when necessary.  They also offer a CODING class!!

Illuminations
Search for lessons tied to Standards.

This WIKI is awesome, too, also ties lessons to standards.

For Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade teachers - Project M2 - Mentoring Young Mathematicians -  by UConn is an excellent resource for both teachers and students.

There are advanced K-2 math units specifically targeting geometry and measurement, along with a heavy writing component. There are a LOT of math games for kindergarten-2nd grade students at this site under the link "Fun for Students" under each grade level. Too many to list here!

Sum Dog and MangaHigh

Most of my students already have a SumDog account and are frequent players. This site and its sister site, MangaHigh, are good tools to have when you have a block of time with the new computers or iPads. Game driven, but you can go into the settings, set challenges, and monitor progress. Free. I have set up my two schools, so check with your G/T Specialist to see if she or he has set up your school yet.

There are too many here to list, but some include variations on the ancient game of NIM. Warning: Once you start exploring this site, hours will have passed and you will not know it. :)

Practical Money Skills

There are some great games on this website that help introduce money, budgeting, life skills, and so on. Especially fun for older elementary and middle school students are the financial football and financial soccer games.

The Math Forum
This is a great site where teachers have shared math lessons. It's organized very well, and has links that will lead you to other great math websites.
